Childhood Over

My childhood officially ended this Sunday after WrestleMania 26. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were, quite honestly, my heroes growing up. I was the biggest WWF fan you would find from 1989-1998. And they were my favorite.
I have barely watched it since the “Montreal Screw Job” and wrestling really hasn’t been very good since.
This past Sunday both men had their final match, on the same card. Bret – after suffering a concussion 13 years ago that cost him his career. He also suffered a stroke 8 years ago, so any kind of performance out of him was a blessing.
Michaels had to take 4 years off between 1999-2003 because of severe back injuries, but since his return was back to his old self.
I watched WrestleMania 26 as though I was 8 years old again. Totally got involved in the matches, and for the 4 hours pretending wrestling was “real” again. And it was awesome. The top picture above is from the greatest match of all time, which took place at WrestleMania 12 in 1996. The bottom picture is from January. Both men older. No longer at the top of the sport they once dominated.
With these two officially retired, chances are I’ll probably never go back to watching wrestling. But for that one night, I was a kid again.
