10 Years

This weekend marks the 2010 NBA All-Star festivities. This morning as I was browsing the interwebs about this, I realized it has been 10 years since Vince Carter put the ball between his legs, and in doing so put Toronto on the NBA map.

The above picture means a lot to me. I have it in full size poster form in my old bedroom, and in framed plaque form. Before this event I watched basketball. After this event I LOVED basketball. I can remember the Monday after at school, in 9th grade, talking to all my friends about how amazing Vin-Sanity was that night. He single-handedly (well, I guess he had some help on the between the legs dunk from T-Mac) formed me in to the Raptors fanatic I am today.
In the years that followed I have rarely missed a Raptors game. Three seasons in a row I watched at least 75 of the 82 games. There was a time I wouldn’t accept employment if there was a chance I’d be working at 7:00PM.
10 years.
That’s a long time. That’s almost 50% of my life.
Vince did not leave the town on the best of terms at all. And I boo the shit out of him when he comes back. But deep down, thank you VC. Thank you for the past 10 years.
